Steam Locomotive Museum - Sibiu

The collection at Sibiu began in the 1960s when the older steam locomotives from the Sighisoara- Sibiu narrow gauge line were withdrawn. 388.001 was preserved at the depot as a static exhibit. It was joined by other standard and narrow gauge locomotives from 1991. The official "Steam Locomotive Museum" was inaugurated on 23 August, 1994 - the occasion of the centenary of the Sibiu - Cisnadie line. The collection has been progressively expanded and locomotives preserved by enthusiasts from the CFR Brasov Region. It now comprises 23 standard gauge locomotives, 10 narrow gauge locomotives, 3 snow ploughs and 2 steam cranes. 7 of these locomotives are active and are used on a variety of special trains for enthusiasts and other groups.
Sibiu Railway Museum:
Locomotive 389.001, built by Wiener Neustadt in 1885 for the Taraczvölgy railway, worked on the line between Sighisoara and Sibiu until 1973.

Take a look at Julian Nolte's
excellent website dedicated to the
Sibiu - Agnita railway

(also contains other useful railway links)
The Museum is located opposite the main railway station in Sibiu, comprising the former roundhouse and turntable across the railways lines. Part of the depot area is still used so care should always be taken. In addition, there is usually a narrow gauge steam locomotive based at the depot of the narrow gauge Sibiu-Agnita railway (follow the narrow gauge lines east from the station).
Sibiu Railway Museum:
