Count Kalnoky invites you to discover Transylvania as his grand- and great-grand parents
knew it in the 1800's. Here you can immerse yourself in a forgotten world
that most people would believe to have ceased to exist in today's Europe.

You will stay in Miclosoara, a remote little village in the foothills of the Carpathian mountains
to the north of Brasov. From here you may venture out on journeys,
not just across a virgin landscape but through time itself.
Miclosoara (Miklósvár) is the oldest documented settlement
of the region. Its castle was first mentioned in 1211 AD as a
border fortress of the Kingdom of Hungary.

Today's castle was started in the1500s as a hunting lodge for the
family and still contains many Renaissance elements such as
painted wall decorations.
It was abandoned the last fifty years and is currently
under restoration.
Castle Kalnoky

The Kálnokys are one of the most ancient families of Transylvania,
their history reaching back to obscure medieval times.

In 1252 AD our ancestor Vincze received Miclosoara (Miklósvár) and its region as a royal donation.
The current, 25th generation came back after 50 years of exile in the West and are now
reshaping their once lost heritage.

The family castle is being renovated and amy proceeds from these holidays will go towards this
extensive work. At some stage in the future it is hoped that events may be accommodated
in the castle.

During restoration work in the chapel and its crypt,
several bodies of earlier generations were discovered.

The Cemetery

By some incredible feat of nature, they were nearly mummified
and astonishingly well preserved.
Afterthe renovations, the entrance to the
crypt was walled forsecurity reasons
In this last resting place of our ancestors,
we celebrate a short mass every Sunday evening
