| Location
Lunca Ilvei is a peaceful mountain village in the Bârgãu region of northern Transylvania. Most traffic is horse drawn and there is little motor traffic. | The surrounding land is a mixture of alpine pasture and forest, ideal for horse riding. Transhumance is practiced by shepherds who spend each summer in high pastures in a way unchanged for generations.Wildlife including deer and large birds of prey are often seen. To the north the Rodna mountains reach over 2000 metres. Eastward lie the famous "painted monasteries" and the spa town of Vatra Dornei, in the Bucovina region. Southwards is the "Borgo Pass" of Dracula fame! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Horses and equipment
Native Romanian breeds are used, principally the strong and lively Hutsul mountain ponies. A Lipizzaner and an Irish Draught horse are also present at the stables. Australian saddles combining comfort with a secure seat are used. |
